I have an acer laptop and a lg lcd tv I also have bought a vga to hdmi cable but it wasn’t long enough so i used a hdmi male to female but I can’t get the image on the tv. (I connected my vga to my laptop and the other side of it (male hdmi) to the other wire ( female hdmi ) and the other side of that (male hdmi to the tv).

Did you try without the extension? If that works it’s the extension. If not, right click anywhere on your desktop, select ‘properties’ and enable the second monitor. You might have to play with the settings a bit to get the best out of it.

  1. Try turning off the laptop and then hooking it up to the TV then power up the laptop. Your computers CMOS may not be able to deal with the sudden change.

  2. You need to set the laptop to output digital over VGA. If it has no settings for that, the VGA to HDMI cable is of no use to you.

    Rather, you need to get a VGA to HDMI converter box, which will convert the analog only VGA, to the digital HDMI only is.
